Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
It’s been months since Twilight first burst onto cinema screens and the appetite for its treasures shows no signs of abating. If anything, it just gets more and more rampant as the days count down to the release of its hotly anticipated follow-up, The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Annoying then that so many of the film’s trinkets are discontinued and no longer available. Hallelujah then for eBay! The auction website promises plenty of Twilight goodies for those that are prepared to troll through its pages searching for that perfect Twilight treasure and we’ve spotted some really great ones this week…

Shrek's Donkey named most-loved movie animal
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
He loves parfait, has “freakish mutant babies” with a female dragon and can belt out quite the musical number with Puss in Boots. Yes, we’re talking about Donkey, the smart-mouthed sidekick from the Shrek movies who has been voted the most-loved movie animal in a new poll by DVD rental service LOVEFiLM. The animated ass (we’re not being rude – that’s its name!), voiced by Hollywood comedian Eddie Murphy might not be a “noble steed”, but he sure is popular snapping up more than one in four votes polled from the 2,000+ counted. Cinema release inspirations including Public Enemies
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
Good morning Boxwishers or should we say guys and dolls for this week sees the release of 1930s crime drama Public Enemies. There are Tommy Guns, two-tone shoes and fedoras all over the place in the Johnny Depp/ Christian Bale two-header and that’s not all that’s new in cinemas from this weekend as there’s also comedy cartoon shenanigans with Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. So take your pick: old-school gangsters or a rowdy rabble of prehistoric animals. Click over for more…

Gadget of the week: Dyson DC25 vacuum cleaner in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
Here at Boxwish, mobile phones, cameras and computers tend to rule our gadget of the week blog posts, their dominance of Hollywood reflecting their central role in our lives during this age of technology. But this week, we’re mixing things up and shining the spotlight on another of life’s everyday essentials, albeit one a little less glamorous than a swanky iPhone and less showbiz than the ubiquitous Apple iMac – a vacuum cleaner. And not just any vacuum cleaner cleaning fans, only the Dyson DC25 as seen in mega-hit Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Win Bella's wardrobe from Twilight
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
Alice Cullen (played by Ashley Greene) might be the faithful fashionista, yet when it comes to fans looking to replicate the onscreen styles of the Twilight brood Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is the undisputed queen. Her casual style has become such a phenomenon that items worn by her have been reintroduced after being discontinued, have clean sold-out and become more sought after than a ride in Edward’s (Robert Pattinson) Volvo. And so it’s with great excitement that we tell you about a competition from new entertainment website t5m which offers one lucky person the chance to win three goodies from Bella’s wardrobe. Public Enemies pushes up visitor numbers at John Dillinger's grave
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
Here’s territory we’ve never explored before here at Boxwish – a biopic that prompts fans to seek out the grave site of the film’s subject. In this case, we’re talking about notorious 1930s bank robber John Dillinger who is played in new gangster drama Public Enemies by Hollywood eccentric Johnny Depp. Buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana, the law-breaker christened by the FBI “Public Enemy Number One” has long interested people who have then journeyed to visit his last resting place; however the Michael Mann movie has caused these attendance numbers to soar.

Wisconsin store taps into Public Enemies 1930s fever
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
There were many stopovers during filming of new gangster flick Public Enemies. The production team for the Johnny Depp/ Christian Bale crime epic journeyed across America’s Upper Midwest taking in the real-life haunts of 1930s bank robber John Dillinger and transforming others to match their historic counterparts. One such place given the showbiz lick of paint was Columbus in Wisconsin (more on this tomorrow in our locations feature), where shooting commenced in March of last year and now one local store owner is tapping into this Hollywood connection by going vintage with some retro 1930s goodies…

Las Vegas resort boosted by The Hangover
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
You wouldn’t think there’s much you’d like to recreate from surprise summer hit The Hangover. A strange baby in your wardrobe? Nope. Fancy missing a tooth? Not so much. A tiger in your bathroom? COUNT ME OUT! But it seems that the raucous bachelor comedy has inspired plenty of folks to do one thing – head to Las Vegas and specifically, the partying lads’ pad of choice – Caesar’s Palace. The Sin City resort has even put together a special “The Hangover package” to attract more people to its turf all thanks to those drunken party-goers…

Fashion fix of the week: Teeny tiny disc initial necklace from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
“We are so excited that Megan Fox is wearing our teeny tiny disc initial necklace in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” chirps the website of independent jewellers, Jewelry by Cari and so are we. It was just over a week ago that we talked about the chic styles of Megan Fox’s character, glamorous grease monkey Mikaela Banes and the movie’s goofy hero Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) in our fashion feature (read it here) and still we think the necklace deserves more attention. And what better way to show it some serious love than by naming it as this week’s fashion fix?

Auto of the week: 1954 Buick Super from Revolutionary Road
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
New to DVD this week is the critically acclaimed drama Revolutionary Road, which stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as suburban married couple April and Frank Wheeler. This gorgeous young pair has all the trappings of the 1950s American dream – two smiley-toothed children, smart Connecticut house with trimmed lawn and the 1954 Buick Super parked out front. Yet lurking behind this cheery facade is a tale of broken dreams, high emotion and the sacrifice of youthful idealism for adult pragmatism. Still, at least the Buick looks good – good enough to become our auto of the week.

Public Enemies' Johnny Depp talks movie costumes
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
Fedoras, three-piece suits, pinstripes and overcoats, Johnny Depp is the very picture of 1930s sophistication in new crime flick Public Enemies, out at cinemas from tomorrow. It’s a crisp, smart style seen countless times in other gangster dramas and yet when worn by Depp it’s utterly irresistible. The actor has cultivated quite the fashion following offscreen and is famed for being a quirky chameleon onscreen, yet it’s one of his cinematic characters that has proved the most inspirational in the style stakes. The name’s Captain Jack Sparrow…

Katherine Heigl's 27 Dresses outfit named best movie wedding look
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
Wedding photographs often tell the same story – the glowing, gorgeous bride in a gown to die for surrounded by bridesmaids in lesser dresses gallantly grinning through the pain. And in last year’s rom-com 27 Dresses, poor, obliging Jane Nichols (Katherine Heigl) doesn’t put up with just one nasty outfit, not two, but (there’s a clue in the title, people!) 27 atrocious dresses. There’s a Little Bo Peep one, a Gone with the Wind one and an olive-green one that James Marsden’s cynical journalist Kevin dubs “an instrument of torture”. However thankfully, when Jane finally gets to upgrade from being the perpetual bridesmaid to the blushing bride she gets to wear a stunning sleeveless V-neck dress so dazzling that it’s been voted the best movie wedding look in a new poll by Blockbuster.

Public Enemies spotlighted in 1930s crime exhibition
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
This Wednesday marks the return to the big screen of fedoras and Tommy Guns in Public Enemies, a look at notorious 1930s bank robber John Dillinger (played by Johnny Depp). Dillinger was far from alone in this Depression-era crime wave, joined in real-life as he is in the movie by fellow outlaws Pretty Boy Floyd (Fighting’s Channing Tatum) and Baby Face Nelson (Brit character actor Stephen Graham). And so to coincide with the release of this gangster epic, Oshkosh Public Museum is shining the spotlight on these fugitives of the law with their exhibition, “The Era of Public Enemies” which opened on Saturday.

Cinema release inspirations including Year One

Entertainment seems to dominate world headlines today. From the sad passing of Michael Jackson to the start of another soggy Glastonbury festival, we’re all talking about the arts and as per our weekly habit; we’re focussing on new films hitting cinemas today. After the likes of Terminator Salvation and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in recent weeks, this weekend’s offerings are absent any action blockbusters (though Transformers is new out in the US), letting others pick up the slack. There are belly laughs with new comedy Year One, quirky characters in Sunshine Cleaning and tender family drama in My Sister’s Keeper all ensuring that you won’t mind taking a break from massive explosions and CGI set-pieces. Remembering Michael Jackson through movies
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
Here at Boxwish, we would like to join the millions and millions of people across the world in expressing our sadness at the passing of Michael Jackson at the age of 50. The King of Pop, as he was so aptly christened by long-time friend Elizabeth Taylor, contributed so much to the world of music providing us with a cherished legacy of songs that will live long in our hearts and on our iPods. However, rather than repeat the many tributes paid to the star by his friends, family and fellow celebrities or to rake over his many years in the spotlight, we’re honouring MJ with a Boxwish-style celebration that remembers his best movie moments.

eBay find: Johnny Depp's screen-worn sunglasses from Public Enemies
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
The first image of him as The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland shows him on typically quirky turf (how can an orange frizzy afro and matching eyebrows NOT look kinda odd?), yet Johnny Depp’s certainly flashing his fashion credentials in gangster drama Public Enemies, due out next week. As notorious 1930s bank robber John Dillinger, Depp cuts a dash in gorgeously tailored three-piece suits and more fedoras than you can shake a stick at (if you’re into that kind of thing) and we’ve uncovered one of the more eye-catching items sported by Depp as America’s Public Enemy Number One up for auction on eBay – his vintage sunglasses.

Blofeld named best Bond baddie ever
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
A hero’s nothing without an evil villain to defeat and over the years Bond, James Bond has taken down quite a few notable nasties. Not surprising really considering Her Majesty’s finest has been busy defending Queen and country in films since 1962 and shows no sign of letting up any time soon. But which is the best baddie 007’s ever faced? That was what DVD rental service LOVEFiLM wanted to know and so posed that very question to over 1,000 of its members and the answer came in the bald, cat-loving form of Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Gadget of the week: Panasonic Lumix FZ28 SLR camera from Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Heading to the Catalan capital for a holiday with her chum Vicky (Rebecca Hall) in sultry rom-com Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) makes sure she’s packed all the summer essentials – sunglasses (she favours Ray-Ban 4090s), plenty of reading material and a camera. Escorted by Latin smoothie Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem), she goes sight-seeing and captures all the colour and energy of the city with her Panasonic Lumix FZ28 SLR. And so to mark this week’s DVD release of this Woody Allen classic-in-the-making and to get in the vacation spirit, we’re making it this week’s gadget spot.

Edwards Scissorhands prop fetches over $16,000 at auction
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
Rockefeller Center was the place to be yesterday if on the hunt for expensive entertainment treasures. The New York branch of Christie’s auctioneers was home to a whole host of music, art and movie goodies going under the hammer as part of its Pop Culture Sale. Making headlines everywhere was the sale of a Sergeant Pepper poster signed by all four Beatles which sold for a whopping $52,500 (over £31,000), however it was the film-related items from the 300 available that whetted our appetite here at Boxwish. And most exciting and novel amongst this number was the prop of Edward Scissorhands’s scissorhands used in the production of the Johnny Depp movie which sold for $16,000 (nearly £10,000) – remarkable considering the asking price was only $3,000 to $5,000!

Sex and the City’s costume designer Patricia Field says no to fashion cutbacks
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
It’s now been over a year since the movie of Sex and the City burst onto big screens everywhere, causing commotion in style circles thanks to everything from its scene-stealing Vivienne Westwood wedding dress to its Eiffel Tower handbag. And let’s not forget the Love Letters of Great Men poetry book, the ‘Love’ key ring and the Apple iPhone – phew! Those fabulous fashionistas certainly know how to set trends. However much debate has raged as to whether this will once again be the case in the follow-up film, set to shoot this autumn and hit cinemas next summer. Will Carrie and co. still be dressed to the nines? Well, it depends on who you talk to. Star Sarah Jessica Parker has spoken publicly of tempering the foursome’s big spending, yet the franchise’s celebrated costume designer and stylist Patricia Field seems to have other ideas…

Fashion fix of the week: Emmett’s waistcoat look from The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
With Ashley Greene (aka Alice Cullen) recently letting slip that more time and money is being spent on the costumes to The Twilight Saga: New Moon, excitement as to what these will be is reaching fever pitch. The teaser trailer for the hugely anticipated sequel to last winter’s blockbuster, Twilight gave us a iddy biddy look at these new styles and one we’re already loving is that of hunky man mountain, Emmett Cullen (Kellan Lutz) at Bella’s (Kristen Stewart) birthday party. So much so that we’re naming it this week’s fashion fix.

Criminals claim casino robbery inspired by Ocean’s Eleven
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
Here at Boxwish, we’ve sometimes strayed into the contentious world of movies as inspiration for real-life wrong-doing. There was the school student who allegedly bit his fellow pupils because of Twilight and the on-going debate regarding smoking in films and now we’ve hit upon a real humdinger – a pair of criminals that stole $1.5 million from a Californian casino inspired by Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and his gang from the crime caper Ocean’s Eleven. Only they got caught – how very un-Hollywood.

The Blade Runner house - yours for a cool $15 million
Posted by Team Boxwish about 1 year ago
$2.3 million for Cameron Frye’s house in 80s favourite Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, $2.85 million for the New Orleans mansion from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? Pah! These are all small fry compared to the latest silver screen property to hit the market – the Frank Lloyd Wright Ennis mansion as seen in sci-fi cult classic Blade Runner. The 1924 property, built from Mayan-inspired concrete blocks, 27,000 of them to be precise is one of the famed architects most famous works and so is asking for bids in the region of $15 million (£9.1 million). Time to raid the piggy bank folks!
