Where to begin, Boxwishers, where to begin? Last night, Battersea Evolution was the only place to be for Twifans as in this leafy corner of London, the UK fan party for The Twilight Saga: New Moon went down. A replacement for the cancelled London premiere, it boasted the star power of Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and the film’s director, Chris Weitz and we were lucky enough to be there. And here to provide you with our account of the showbiz night of nights is our editor, Katie (a self-confessed Twilight-aholic) who is now suffering serious New Moon fever…

Hi guys, my name’s Katie and I was really looking forward to seeing New Moon, but no longer. Now I’m practically delirious and foaming at the mouth with excitement and last night is the reason why. I turned up, with fellow Twilight devotee, Lucy to the UK fan party and, like the rest of the fans, we queued in the dismal London drizzle to collect our tickets. Once we had these (in the form of cool wrist-bands which we’re never taking off!), we made our way to the venue entrance, which was nothing short of spectacular.

There was a large lit lantern fashioned to look like a new moon surrounded by whirls of fake smoke (which proved a big feature of the night) and bare trees, all creating a very fantastical, gothic atmosphere. It was then down the red carpet which was surrounded by press photographers and the army of loyal fans without tickets that had camped out to catch a peek at the cast as they entered (one fan revealed to presenter Alex Zane, who was conducting the red carpet interviews, that she’d been there since 7’o clock in the morning – kudos!) and then into the venue.

Again, the foyer of this kept the dark and mysterious mood with more smoke and bare trees (indoors!) and then it was through to the main auditorium. This was decked out with twinkly lights and fantastic large portrait pics of the cast. Here, Lucy and I caught our breath (and some Diet Cokes) as we waited with incredible anticipation, watching the big screens to see what was going on outside, namely red-cloaked figures emulating the Volturi (with red contact lenses – eek!) and buff young men showing off their toned torsos performing athletic gymnastics in a werewolf stylee.

But we didn’t have too long to wait before there was some red carpet action, it starting with Wyck Godfrey (the movie’s producer) and the two musical acts opening the event, Band of Skulls and The Magic Numbers (the girls of the band revealing they’d rather be vampires, but the fellas opting for werewolves). There was the rogue appearance of British singer/songwriter, Newton Faulkner (there for his sister), and then Robert was there, charming his home crowd and happily signing autographs and posing for pics, before being joined by Taylor, Kristen and Chris.

By this point, excitement in the venue was reaching fever pitch as we knew the stars would soon be taking the stage, yet before that the evening was formally kicked off by Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw on hosting duties, who was joined onstage by Chris. This brief intro was followed by fantastic performances by Band of Skulls and The Magic Numbers and then onto the main event – the Q and A with the stars.

Deafening applause greeted them all as they nestled into their (uncomfortable-looking) stools and then it was onto the questions that we, the audience had provided. The conversation ranged from crowd-pleasing revelations (Kristen’s admission that Edward is the right guy for Bella though if she were Bella’s friend she’d tell her to get with Jacob and Rob’s happiness at being in London) to quirky off-beat topics (Taylor’s favourite superhero is Iron Man though Chris’s is Taylor himself, while Kristen loves throwing balls at Taylor for him to catch in his mouth!). All adding up to a varied talk that also took in New Moon’s Italian locations, the actors’ favourite scenes to film (both Kristen and Rob opted for the break-up scene) and Chris’s favourite directors (Steven Soderbergh and Michael Winterbottom fact fans).

It all absolutely whizzed by, with the crowd definitely playing their part, roaring with approval whenever Rob talked about his love of the Twifans or encouraging Taylor to take his top off. And then all too soon it was over, the stars waving a fond farewell before being whisked off backstage.

This wasn’t the end of the party, as Daisy Dares You and Goldhawks later took the stage and New Moon film footage was screened, but it was for Boxwish as we had to get our beauty rest and so we said goodnight, ending a brilliant night that we won’t forget anytime soon.

But what about you, Boxwishers? Did you manage to snag tickets for the event, and if so what did you make of it, what were your highlights and who were you most pleased to see in the flesh? Or, if unable to attend, do you think you’ll be able to make it to any of the other New Moon promotional events? Leave a comment and share the New Moon love and check out our first-hand snaps of the night at our Twlightopia Facebook page here.
