It’s time for unlucky in love TV producer Abby Richter (Katherine Heigl) to face The Ugly Truth – she doesn’t understand men. Good job that she’s forced to work with chauvinistic TV personality Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler) who believes he can help Abby grasp what makes men tick and thereby snag and keep the man of her dreams, next-door neighbour Colin (Eric B. Winter). And this dating education soon makes its way to her wardrobe.

“We have to change your look,” says Mike as he leads a dazed Abby around a shop, explaining: “It’s completely inaccessible; you’re all about comfort and efficiency.” Not that there’s anything wrong with this, he continues as Abby begins to defend her clothes, only that “no-one wants to f**k it.” Quite. He promptly reaches for a raunchy lacy bra, encouraging Abby to get in touch with the vamp within, a lesson so well studied by the student that Mike soon finds himself overwhelmed at the sheer sexiness of her new look.

And chief among these sexy new outfits is a little black dress so chic and stunning that Chanel would glow with pride. No surprise then, that this beautifully tailored number is the work of another top fashion designer, Giorgio Armani. The grand couturier, most famous for his menswear designs, has frequently contributed to Hollywood productions, from the recent spy caper Duplicity (star Clive Owen is a long-time admirer of Armani) back through the years to the likes of 1980s efforts American Gigolo and The Untouchables, and collaborated with costume designer Betsy Heimann (Reservoir Dogs, Jerry Maguire) on the dress that everyone is talking about.
