Top three flamboyant fashionistas in movies

Vassup! Say hello to Brüno, the latest comedy creation of chameleon Sacha Baron Cohen. Not content with the ruckus he caused in 2006 with his Kazakhstani TV reporter Borat Sagdiyev, the man behind the shock comedy returns with another controversial character – the flamboyantly dressed homosexual Austrian reporter Brüno. And like his moustachioed predecessor, Brüno lands in the US of A to give the American public a heavy dose of his comedy quirks, most obvious in his theatrical style of dress.
There are transparent plastic suits, bright yellow lederhosen and leather, lots and lots of leather. This abundance of the fetishistic fabric almost balances out the absence of something Borat fans have become accustomed to – Baron Cohen’s body hair.
“He’d heard that all-over hairlessness is a popular trend in the gay community,” reveals a source close to the star, “so he thought he’d bleach all his hair so it looked invisible.” Rumours circulate that the bleaching incident resulted in a painful rash, but it’s all part and parcel of being truly committed to style. Brüno would understand.
And the hairless effect certainly draws even greater attention to the costumes, each and everyone designed to be as provocative and in-your-face as possible for subtle is not a word in Brüno’s vocabulary. And while he certainly achieves this, taking outrageous ensembles to a whole new level, he’s not alone in dressing in headache-inducing clothes.
And so in tribute to Brüno, we’re rummaging to the back of the wardrobe to dig out some other fearlessly flamboyant film fashionistas.
