Try and think up a job as far-fetched and fantastical as you can and chances are there’s someone out there doing it right now. From dog food testers to fortune cookie writers, there is a world beyond the everyday populated by weird and wonderful occupations available to those with open-minds and or big overdrafts. And one such bizarre profession is keeping single mum Rose Lorkowski (Amy Adams) and her slacker younger sister Norah (Emily Blunt) busy in quirky new indie Sunshine Cleaning – crime scene cleaning.
There’s no forensic analysis or police work involved for the pair of sisters, in Rose’s words, “all we have to do is go in there and throw everything away.” Sounds simple enough and soon their small start-up christened Sunshine Cleaning is up and running, but how does it compare to other quirky business endeavours from the cinematic vaults? That’s what we wondered so we’re donning our Gordon Gecko braces, attending motivational classes ala Glengarry Glen Ross and coming over all corporate to rate the quirkiest start-up businesses in movies.
