The old adage says you’re only young once, but what if that wasn’t true? It certainly proves false for Mike O’Donnell in new family comedy 17 Again. Played by Friends alumnus Matthew Perry, Mike is 37-years-old and frustrated with the direction his life has taken only for a little magical intervention to find him turning back the clock 20 years to when he was 17 Again. This bizarre opportunity sees Perry disappear from our screens replaced with a more youthful Mike, played by High School Musical star Zac Efron. And it’s this teenage version that impresses in the style stakes.

Not that acclimatising to the modern trends is easy for Mike. Stumped for what to do he enrols at the same high school as his two children Maggie (Michelle Trachtenberg, better known as Buffy’s younger sister Dawn in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Alex (Sterling Knight from Disney channel show Sonny With a Chance) and not only finds out more about them but about contemporary teenage fashion.

Mike tries to fit in by making a desperate stab at what he considers youth culture. Cue going seriously over-the-top in a bid for street style with a trucker cap worn to the side, a graphic print T-Shirt (both by high-end brand Ed Hardy), a blue and black check stretch wristband worn high on his forearm and jewellery – a chain and a pendant. It’s not a look that impresses the female population of Hayden High School (in actuality Santa Monica High School in California) as one student mocks: “What d’ya do? Mug K-Fed?”
