There are the breathtaking landscapes of rugged northern Australia, the intensity of World War II conflict and the sumptuous fashions of the 1930s all wrapped up in a sweeping epic romance. But what else have we come to expect from Baz Luhrmann, the writer/ director of such theatrical and flamboyant fare as Moulin Rouge! and William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet? Hawaiian born but Australian raised actress Nicole Kidman breathes life into the role reuniting her with her Moulin Rouge! colleagues Luhrmann and production/ costume designer Catherine Martin (incidentally Luhrmann’s wife) – a significant collaboration as Martin nabbed an Oscar for the last time she dressed Kidman onscreen. No pressure then.
