There are few final lines in movies as memorably poignant as those belonging to ruthless movie impresario Carl Denham at the close of King Kong. As the gigantic gorilla lies dead at the base of the Empire State Building, Denham proclaims: “It wasn’t the airplanes. It was beauty killed the beast.” This grand statement, referencing Kong’s love for aspiring actress Ann Darrow is in both the 1933 original King Kong and the 2005 Peter Jackson remake and practically demands that the actress playing the role of Darrow possesses a technical beauty and irresistible luminosity. Good job that they cast Naomi Watts then.

The English-born, Australian-raised actress has carved a niche for herself in Hollywood for adding grace and likeability to roles in work as varied as horror remake The Ring (and its sequel), Merchant/ Ivory period comedy Le Divorce and psychological thriller Mulholland Drive. Away from the cameras, this easy charm and effortless elegance is coupled with an eclectic, experimental dress sense that helps her turn heads whether walking the red carpet or snapped in private. She has further cemented her fashion credentials with her role as the face of Thierry Mugler fragrance Angel and is often interrogated by journalists hungry for her style secrets (drink lots of water, have regular facials and sleep lots apparently!)

However it’s the chic ensembles of the big screen that we’re concerned with here at Boxwish and we’ve plundered Naomi Watts’s CV for three of her most fashionable films. They are each very different, some being casual and accessible, some being more special and glamorous – but all will help you get the star style of Naomi Watts.
