Film star looks: Audrey Hepburn

What is there left to say about the fashion goddess that was Audrey Hepburn? Years before Sarah Jessica Parker made the name necklace cool as Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw or Diane Keaton caused a rush for men’s clothing in Annie Hall, Audrey was setting new standards of cinematic style. Best remembered for her little black dress look from 1961’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, one of many collaborations with French fashion guru and close chum Hubert de Givenchy, she dazzled from the moment she first burst onscreen in her break-out role in Roman Holiday and continued to shine brightly for years to come as Hollywood’s unrivalled first lady of elegance.
Decades later, her trademark elfin appearance is still adored and emulated by fashionistas around the world. Whether they’ve seen all the films or not, they recognise the unmistakable grace and old-school glamour of Audrey. Not that she ever bought into this hype, regularly dismissing her looks and judging that their sole appeal lay in its attainability. “Women can look like Audrey Hepburn by flipping out their hair, buying the large glasses and the little sleeveless dresses,” she flippantly quipped back in 1989.
And while we suspect there’s a bit more to it than that, she was right in supposing her style to be easily replicated and to prove it we’ve put together three of her most iconic ensembles. You might not have your own personal couturier like Givenchy, but never fear as Boxwish shows you how to introduce some of that magical Audrey aura to your wardrobe.
