Where the Wild Things Are inspires clothing range

So far many of our discussions about the new Spike Jonze movie, Where the Wild Things Are, have focussed on the family film’s soundtrack. It’s not surprising really, considering its cool credentials (the music is courtesy of Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and being the tale of a young boy’s daydream of life among hairy monsters, known as the Wild Things, we weren’t expecting Sex and the City-style haute couture. How wrong we were, as while Carol, Judith and all the other beasties aren’t donning Jimmy Choos and Ray-Bans, the film is set to make a splash in style circles thanks to a collaboration between Jonze and cool fashion brand Opening Ceremony. And like the Wild Things themselves, some of these designs have to be seen to be believed.
The limited edition collection is a quirky combination of clothing and jewellery. The former includes pieces for men and women and makes full use of faux fur, to play up the monster connection, while the latter comes from cool New York-based designer Pamela Love. The collection debuted online on Monday and is soon to be filling Opening Ceremony stores in New York, Tokyo and Los Angeles.
Here at Boxwish we just love it! What a great and novel way to celebrate the film and where to start with the many choices available? For accessory lovers, plays things safe and subtle with the Bull Eye ring, reveal your rough’n’tumble side with the Single Claw necklace or add more dramatic shine to your ensemble with the Douglas Feather cuff.
Alternatively, opt for the furry clothing with coats, skirts, dresses and sweatshirts all on offer. But our favourites, by an absolute mile are the pair of items replicating the cosy monster suit worn by the imaginative youngster, Max. The Max sweatshirt complete with hood and ears is cute, while the Max suit, an all-in-one jumpsuit is the best. They’re not cheap with prices starting at $115 and climbing to over $800, however for those with a passion for the Wild Things and with some spare change lying around – welcome to your winter wardrobe!
