Here at Boxwish HQ, we’re not sure who would win in a face-off between Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and Twilight’s Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). The boy wizard’s got magic on his side along with two devoted chums in Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), while the ice-cool vamp is immortal, can read minds and is backed up by the Cullen clan. It’s a toughie and we’re not ashamed to say has led to some heated debates, however it seems a lot more cut and dried for Aussie youngsters who have voted in their numbers in favour of the Stephenie Meyer vampire and his world.

The survey of nearly 2,700 Australians aged from 12 to 18-years-old was conducted by teen online virtual world, Habbo and sought to dig deeper into the rivalry between HP and Twilight, and found that Edward, Bella (Kristen Stewart), Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and co. are definitely overtaking Harry and the Hogwarts gang in the popularity stakes.

Only 28 per cent said they preferred Harry Potter to Twilight, with 55 per cent saying they’d rather read one of the four books from The Twilight Saga than any of the seven J. K. Rowling efforts. Half added that they’d rather watch Twilight than HP and over a quarter had watched the Twilight DVD or read the book over ten times.

This incredible Twilight devotion was emphasised by further findings: Only 15 per cent had not read or seen Twilight, over 50 per cent had read all four of the Twilight books and 63 per cent own the DVD of the movie. Add to this some serious excitement about the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon which opens in Oz tomorrow (a day earlier than in the UK – no fair!) with nearly 70 per cent planning to see it and 30 per cent willing to stay up late for the midnight screening.

That’s some pretty impressive Twilight devotion and seemingly at the expense of Harry Potter. Maybe the stats would be a little more wizard-heavy in a year’s time when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I debuts…

For great Twilight and New Moon merchandise and products hit here.
