When the first trailer for The A-Team hit cyberspace recently, our inner 80s child loved it. Liam Neeson (who’s never shoddy in anything – FACT) as Hannibal with cigar and trademark “I love it when a plan comes together” quote, Hollywood hot property, Bradley Cooper as Faceman (clearly working on his six-pack) and District 9 fave, Sharlto Copley as Murdock – there’s no arguing with that casting and even UFC fighter Quinton Jackson as B.A. Baracus didn’t look too wobbly. And now ramping up our excitement to even greater heights is the movie’s director, Joe Carnaghan (Smokin’ Aces, Narc) who’s been talking to MTV Movies about what we can expect from the summer action fest. And yes, he reveals that at least one bad guy will die. Cool…

For fans that grew up loving those soldiers of fortune, the big screen bow of The A-Team is a thrilling but equally nervous prospect. Will it be like the TV series we adored or can we expect wholesale changes, after all, their last adventure came at a time when ski-pants and Curiosity Killed the Cat were still popular (and if you asked “Who are Curiosity Killed the Cat”? My point exactly). Over to Joe to spill the beans on such updates, including the A-Team van, B.A.’s bling and more.

MTV: How similar will the A-Team van be to the original?

JC: “It’s the same make and model. It’s a GMC Dura van; the body style is 83-88, which was the same body style. But we’ve done our little tweaks to it, because if you look at the original van the rims are different. We put a low-profile package on it, so you could see it being driven around today … it’s a badass vehicle.”

MTV: Where are B.A.’s gold chains in all of the promo materials?

JC: “The mohawk is there. But the gold chains, to me, were always more of an affectation of Mr. T, not the B.A. character … Rampage [Quinton’s fighting nickname] and I had a lot of conversations and we were both adamant that this character is B.A. Baracus, not Mr. T.”

MTV: Will there be a body count larger than 0?

JC: “At least one villain will die. Right there, we’ve already broken with tradition.”

MTV: How will Murdock’s (Sharlto Copley) crazy be played?

“We did a scene in Iraq where he’s barbecuing steaks for everybody and he’s using gunpowder to season it like you would salt and pepper. We had rigged everything to blow up and told [Copley], “Be careful of your eyes.” And he just didn’t care, man. He put his head right over there, the smoke’s coming up in his face; the fire is in his face!"

MTV: Will we see the team preparing for some big mission to the strains of a musical montage?

JC: "Of course. Yeah. There’s some pretty wild stuff in there during our montage, some funny bits. Sharlto had some really big, spectacle moments. It’s very much in keeping with the improvisational nature of, “OK, let’s use this and that [to build something].” The A-Team really started that whole MacGyver thing."

Consider our anticipation levels at 11. Bring on the A-Team!
