Team Boxwish quizzed: Which movie monster/ villain do you think has the coolest costume?

Sometimes it can be hard to root for the movie good guy. He’s so irritatingly wholesome, never gets his hands dirty and only lets loose with small children-friendly expletives (“gosh darnit”, ain’t cutting it here buddy). Making the bad guy all the more appealing. He gets the better lines, causes chaos and is just simply cooler. Not forgetting that he often has the better costume. And so with Halloween but days away now, we’re taking inspiration from some of cinema’s ultimate villains and asking: Which movie monster/ villain do you think has the coolest costume?
Steve: “I think the Joker’s costume is pretty cool in The Dark Knight because it really made that character as eccentric as it should have been. The Green Goblin (Spider-Man) was pretty cool too; it’s just a shame about the rest of that film.”

Nic: “It’s going to have to be Rorschach from Watchmen. I don’t really know why, it just looks so cool!”

Katie: “Scratching my gothic itch, I love the costumes Gary Oldman wears as Dracula in the Francis Ford Coppola version. Obviously not as a wolf, bat or when old with that massive white wig, but when young and dapper trying to woo Winona’s Mina Harker. On a sillier note, you’ve got to love the black and white campness of Beetlejuice and Cruella De Vil and, when it comes to grooming; no-one beats Bette Davis’s Mary Jane Hudson from Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? for scary make-up, while the Bride of Frankenstein rules with her horror hair. Amazing.”

Ella: “My all time favourite movie-monster is the Oxcom (Outside eXperimental Combat Mammal) from the Watchers films. The costume is just so shabby it looks like it’s made out of papier-mâché, but it’s awesome! I also love the Joker from The Dark Knight and Rorschach from Watchmen because they’re bad but they look so cool.”
Rachael: “Edward Scissorhands because he was freaky yet believable. Scissors for hands – why not? Creepy yet loveable. He has scars on his face and white make-up to make him look creepy yet see his vulnerability. Scary yet absolutely magical.”

Lucy: “I think Jareth the Goblin King from Labyrinth looks pretty damn cool for a villain – all very new romantics. I’m loving the ruffles, long boots, hair, general darkness and the eyebrows. But then again, I think David Bowie would make anything look cool.”
Tim: “That’s easy, it has to be Predator! Especially the slightly ‘upgraded’ suits in the AVP movies. Very cool.”
