Movies and TV, they go together like a horse and carriage (or something like that). Yup, the small and the silver screens haven’t always gotten on, but these days they’re practically inseparable. They share everything from talent to concepts, and the transference goes both ways, with TV shows being made into movies (Sex and the City, The X-Files) and movies into TV shows (The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Stargate SG-1). And with a number of 2009’s cinematic offerings going televisual (2012, The Time Traveler’s Wife) we’re wondering what others we’d like to see, with this week’s Team Boxwish question asking: What movie would you like to see made into a TV show?

Ella: “I think Harry Potter could be a great Sunday night TV show, but it would probably go on for years! I also think a lot of the films adapted from comic books would make great television as they’re already cut into weekly segments, as new characters could come and go. Like Spider-Man in soap opera form! The smaller budget might relate better to the counter-culture which most of the comics inhabited before Hollywood got their hands on them too.”

Rachael:Harry Potter! Made a little like Robin Hood or Dr Who are for the BBC; Saturday night at 5pm type of viewing. The challenges would be making new mini adventures for Harry and friends (who would write them? Would JK Rowling allow it?), but in fact it could be a spin off Harry and Friends where we get to find out lots more about the life of Hermione, etc.”

Lucy: “What about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? It’s a brilliant film and I think it would work well as a TV show. The story of his life is broken up with hospital scenes so maybe they would be natural breaks for each episode.”

Tim: “I know I use the same movie in my answers to these questions a lot but I think it would have to be Iron Man again. I’ve just started reading the comics, right back to when Iron Man first appeared, and I think there are loads of great stories (like his ongoing battle with the Hulk!) that would be really cool as part of a regular TV show.”

Steve: “Hmm that’s a tough one. I’m not sure the conversion always works so well, I was really excited by films like The Matrix, but then a little disappointed when the sequel wasn’t so good, never mind how a series would work out. I do think there are some that would work okay though; super hero type things are always watchable. I think something really has to be designed for TV though, would Lost or Heroes make a good film?”

Nic: “I think the Bourne films would be good as a TV series. With a big budget I think it would make an interesting idea and could span lots of episodes. However, I couldn’t imagine anyone other than Matt Damon playing the role!”

Katie: “I find that I could easily spend more time with many characters from ensemble movies, and so with the extended time-span of a TV show they might make the move well. I’m thinking Inglorious Basterds (though it would be after the watershed!), RocknRolla or Magnolia. Or how’s about Back to the Future, following Marty as he time travels all over the place?”
