Team Boxwish quizzed: What film best sums up your days at school/ college/ University?

A big Boxwish top o’ the morning to you on this, International Students’ Day. Yup, it may have just seemed like an ordinary, bog standard Tuesday, but in fact it’s a great time to reflect on your days spent in education. Of course, these might have been few and far between like the naughty bunker, Ferris Bueller or maybe you were a devoted pupil like Hermione from Harry Potter. Either way, we all have our own story of what life was (or is) like when you had to strip off for P.E., began your day with the ringing of a bell and learned the French for “where is the train station?” And if school or later education was less than spectacular, we’re also musing on which movie school we’d have preferred to attend. So enjoy International Students’ Day as we ask: “What film best sums up your days at school/ college/ University?”
Rachael: “Probably a less glamorous and less American version of Grease, though with the same amount of dancing and love triangles of course!”
Lucy: “I can’t really think of a film that sums up my school days – they weren’t that glamorous! I wasn’t a big fan of school, so more days off like Ferris Bueller’s would have been ace. Come to think about it, I used to go to school in one of those old yellow American style school buses that Ed Rooney ends up on at the end – love that scene.”
Tim: “My early school days were actually a little Harry Potter-ish, having spent some time at boarding school, although I’d rather they were like Back to the Future so I could have gone to the Enchantment Under the Sea dance!”
Steve: “I really wish that life at school and Uni had been a bit more like it seems in movies in general, but the reality of it was, and still is, that I’m a geek. That was until I started skydiving. Now I’m drug running across the Mexican border, entering the world speed skydiving championships and generally living the Cutaway lifestyle – don’t bother looking up the movie [too late Steve! It’s a 2000 skydiving action film starring Tom Berenger fact fans], it’s not the world’s best unless you’re a skydiver and want a laugh!”
Nic: “Judging from my exam results I would have to say Ferris Bueller’s Day Off! Nah seriously, it was probably more like John Tucker Must Die (without the girls), just being everyone’s friend and kick-ass at sports! Though I wish school could have been more like a cross between High School Musical and Sky High.”
Katie: “My actual school/ Uni experiences weren’t really Hollywood standard, I wasn’t a cheerleader/ prom queen or that nerd that gets picked on, and was probably most like Julia Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You. But in a dream world, I would have loved to go to Hogwarts, ride the moving staircases, eat all that amazing-looking food in the Great Hall and hang around with the Gryffindor gang.”
Ella: “My school days weren’t particularly exciting, can’t think of any films which sum them up. There’s loads I wish they were more like though; Harry Potter for the magic, The Breakfast Club for the ridiculous detention bonding and Mean Girls or Heathers for the revenge and plotting. I wouldn’t have minded sitting next to a hot vampire in biology either…”
And over to you Boxwishers. Are you still in the throw of compulsory education or are you swotting up at a higher level? And whether it’s in the past or the present, which movie does it best relate to? Though say Carrie and we’re calling Childline!
