Today we’re happy to be kicking off a new weekly Blog post that gives you a chance to get to know us, the guys and gals that make up Team Boxwish, a little better. Every week we’ll be asking a question, one that taps into the inspirational nature of the site and answering it as best we can. It’s not meant as an impossibly difficult IQ-type test (phew!), rather is more open-ended for us to express our opinions and debate some of the issues so intrinsic to Boxwish. And we’re starting this new series with a little look at our fancy-dress history: “Have you ever dressed as a movie character for a fancy dress party?”

Lucy: “Does being Tinkerbell in a village carnival count? Peter Pan must have been my playgroup’s choice of float theme that year. I can vaguely remember being a bit prima donna over the dress they gave me to wear and being wheeled through the village on a bunk bed…”

Tim: “I tried dressing up as Two Face once for a Halloween party (unfortunately inspired by Batman Forever’s Tommy Lee Jones rather than the slightly cooler Aaron Eckhart version), although given my dreadful lack of preparation it turned out being a little more good vs. evil (think white face paint on one side and shoe polish and a half shaved head on the other!). Not sure how but I came runner-up in the best dressed competition…”

Steve: “Not that I remember. I don’t think I have worn fancy dress for a long time, although I remember dressing up as the Milkybar kid when I was younger. If I was heading to a fancy dress party now though I think I’d be Batman, there’s so many other characters I could choose but they wouldn’t be as fun!”

Nic: “Nope, not that I can think of though I did recently make an appearance at a night out dressed as Geri Halliwell but I didn’t have Spice World in mind! I complimented this outfit with some Hulk pants… I won’t go into specifics but I’ll just say it was very well received!”

Katie: “Hell yeah and not just me – it was a family effort so coordinated that it would have impressed the von Trapps. It involved me and my younger brother and sister all in various stages of self-conscious development dressed as dalmatians in tribute to the Disney classic. This involved white cotton outfits with painted on spots, face paint, tails and numbering – me being 99, my sister 100 and my brother, who being the youngest of the pack looked undeniably adorable, 101. Thanks mum!”

Intern Ella: “For my sisters 18th birthday I threw her a surprise Harry Potter party, complete with butter beer, chocolate frogs and even sherbet lemons. We all dressed up; with my Dad as Hagrid, my Mum as Trelawney, my brother as Colin Creevey and I was Bellatrix LeStrange. She was a bit bewildered at first but after we got her glasses, cloak and scarf on she seemed to enjoy it!”

Intern Lizzie: “For my 21st birthday I held a film stars themed party and, pretty ambitiously, I decided to attempt at dressing as Brigitte Bardot, as my close friends and I decided to dress as 50s stars. However, through the course of the (fairly merry) night my big white floppy hat was abandoned on the floor, my cigarette lighter was broken and my sunglasses lost. So there I was, merely a bedraggled girl from Kent in a polka dot dress having to answer questions of “who are you supposed to be?” all night. Oh well.”

And now over to you Boxwishers – have you ever dressed as a movie character for a fancy dress party? And if so, did your costume earn appreciative smiles or mocking grimaces? We’d love to know.
