Sherlock Holmes swaps Baker Street for Madame Tussauds
Posted by Team Boxwish 3 months ago
If blue aliens and sexy showgirls aren’t your idea of festive entertainment, you’ll be happy to hear there’s more than Avatar and Nine hitting cinemas over the Christmas period. Here at Boxwish HQ, we’re particularly excited about Guy Ritchie’s reboot of Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr. as the super sleuth and Jude Law as his ever loyal sidekick, Dr Watson, due out on Boxing Day. Last Friday, the Brit director gave a talk about his latest screen adventure at London’s flagship Apple store and now there’s another corner of the capital ripe with Holmes flavour – Madame Tussauds.
The world famous wax museum is to play host to a lifelike figure of Downey Jr. as Holmes that will be unveiled to coincide with the movie’s release. Like the promotional posters, Holmes is dressed in his Victorian finery – grey and black pinstriped trousers, black (subtly checked) frock coat, waistcoat, cravat, shirt, brown buckle belt and black shoes – posed nonchalantly with his hands in his pockets and with that inquisitive and piercing stare.
Creating such an intricate and meticulous figure has cost £150,000 and required over 300 precise measurements taken of Downey Jr. when he sat for a fitting in New York.
On the union between London’s famous wax museum and it’s most famous detective, Liz Edwards, Madame Tussauds’ PR manager commented: “We’re very excited to be welcoming Sherlock Holmes back to Baker Street and to be including Robert Downey Jr. in the attraction for the first time.” She added: “Holmes and Madame Tussauds are both London legends with strong ties to Baker Street, but Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock has a definite 21st Century twist and the figure will have a very contemporary look and feel also”.
