Patricia Field talks about Sex and the City fashion

As more and more photos emerge from the set of Sex and the City 2 we’re getting very excited about the fashion. We’ve already seen Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and the gang go back in time to their frightening fashion nightmares of the eighties. Super stylist Patricia Field has spoken about her choices for the film, as well as how the girls are handling the recession. She’s admitted that the fashion will be “more fun” in this film, saying: “When you’re in a recession, what do you want? You want to have a good time!” She had previously said: “I don’t use the recession as a reference for my creativity” but it seems she’s had a change of heart, opting for a recessionista wardrobe after all. We’re not so sure; as we’ve found some of the designers and prices of the girl’s new gear.
You might remember Carries lilac studded Loca heels from recent set photographs; they come from designer Brian Atwood and cost $835, while the Gino T-strap Louboutins she wore with her purple Halston dress are $865. That white Halston Heritage dress we were admiring is only $325 but it’s the accessories which will set you back, with the Chanel clutch costing $1500 and her Solange Azagury-Partridge gemstone necklace a huge $198,200. But teamed with her sequinned Louboutin shoes and Mykita & Bernhard Wilhelm sunnies, we have to admit she looks good. Charlotte’s (Kristin Davis) cute pink suit is Christian Dior and comes to $3880, which she wears with a $6650 Lady Dior pink Lizard handbag. Samantha (Kim Cattrall) was looking sexy in her little black dress which she accessorised with a $1300 snakeskin VBH Palm clutch. And Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) wore her shiny gold dress with a simple pair of Yves Saint Laurent Triumph platforms, coming in at $795. There may well be one piece of recession-fashion in the new film as Carrie was again seen wearing her Christian Dior newsprint dress (last seen back in season three), but she couldn’t resist teaming it with $1785 Louboutin lace booties.
As well as these pricey numbers, Field says: “White plays a big role in general because the movie takes place over seven weeks in the summer. But it won’t only be white dresses! I’m going for a new look, new elements on these familiar girls.” Field worked on the original SATC television series and the first Sex and the City movie, and is again working her magic in the sequel. She says: “I’m sure there will be some standouts that will unfold as the movie films.” Sex and the City 2 is due for release in May 2010.
