Merchandise swag: the three books from Julie & Julia
Posted by Team Boxwish 6 months ago
Here at Boxwish we love being inspired by movies and Julie and Julia is all about inspirations. Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) is inspired to become a chef who inspires Julie Powell (played by Amy Adams) to change her life. As the film follows these two very different women we begin to see similarities, particularly the joy cooking brings to them both, and for this week’s merchandise swag we’ve got the three books which inspired the movie.
The film follows the two stories of Julia learning to cook in France during the 1950s, and Julie learning to cook in the present day, from Julia’s book Mastering the Art of French Cooking. With this book Julia introduced French cooking to America, and it contains 524 recipes, as well as guides to ingredients, measurements and kitchen equipment. Over 40 years later and it is still used in many households due to its simple step-by-step instructions and easily accessible ingredients. Next up is the book which Julias segments of the film are adapted from, My Life in France, in which she talks about living and learning to cook in France. Reading the book gives an insight into Julia’s life, and you almost learn to cook as she does, as she goes on her journey from amateur to star. The final book is Julie’s account of her year long quest to cook every recipe in Mastering the Art of French Cooking and revitalise her otherwise boring life, named Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously.
With three inspirational books on offer, we think it’s time to get into the kitchen and start cooking. Whether you’re opting for the full 524 recipes or a special three course meal there’s plenty of easy to follow instructions in Julia’s cookbook.
