Merchandise swag: Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack
Posted by Team Boxwish 10 months ago
The winners of industry awards don’t always prove popular with the public, but there’s always the exception and Slumdog Millionaire, new out on DVD today is certainly that. Not only did the movie sweep the board at the Oscars, the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes, but so did its soundtrack by A. R. Rahman with the standout tune, “Jai Ho” also being re-recorded by pop princesses The Pussycat Dolls. And we can see why it has caught on in such a big way. The Indian film composer’s mix of traditional melodies and modern beats gives the soundtrack a completely unique sound that is both dramatic and absorbing, fun and friendly and so we’re naming it as this week’s merchandise swag spot.
Rahman has revealed that he was instructed by director Danny Boyle to aim for “something very pulse-y”, adding: “We wanted it edgy, upfront. He [Boyle] said every piece of music was going to be a piece by itself. Normally some directors suppress music — they always want the effects to be loud and the music to be softer. Danny wanted it loud.”
And play it loud – it certainly deserves it. The music is full of energy and is high in tempo, great to get you moving first thing in the morning. And so if you feel like a little Indian lift to your day, get the Slumdog Millionaire Soundtrack.
