DVD inspirations including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Posted by Team Boxwish 9 months ago
Hello and good morning to you Boxwishers. Last week we welcomed Slumdog Millionaire into our DVD collection and this week we make some space for some more Oscar winners. So polish off your acceptance speech as we’ve got three-time winner The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (it took home Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects and Best Make-up) and political drama Milk for which star Sean Penn took home his second Best Actor prize (it also won Best Original Screenplay). Not to mention Tom Cruise getting all historical in Valkyrie and gruesome horror with My Bloody Valentine 3D. Something for everyone.
If you see… Brad Pitt star as the titular Benjamin, a man who ages in reverse in the sweeping love story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button co-starring Cate Blanchett.
Why Not Read the short story of the same name by American great, F. Scott Fitzgerald upon which the movie is based. Emulate the timeless fashions of Pitt’s Benjamin and Blanchett’s dancer Daisy with our fashion guides. Or take a look at the creative process that brought the movie to the masses with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: The Making of the Motion Picture book.
If you see… Milk, a biopic about the life and death of the openly gay politician Harvey Milk starring Sean Penn in the central role.
Why Not Learn more about Harvey with Randy Shilts’s illuminating biography The Mayor of Castro Street: The Life & Times of Harvey Milk. Take a wander to some of his San Francisco haunts such as Castro Street or take a stand against current discrimination against gays happening in Harvey’s home state of California by signing a petition opposing Prop 8 here.
If you see… Tom Cruise star as a Nazi Colonel that along with other German army officers attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler during World War II in the Bryan Singer directed thriller Valkyrie.
Why Not Find out more on the German locations used in the movie. Watch the documentary Operation Valkyrie: Stauffenberg’s Plot To Kill Hitler or get the classical soundtrack composed by long-time Singer collaborator John Ottman.
If you see… My Bloody Valentine 3D, a slasher film with a creepy mining theme starring TV heart-throb, Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles.
Why Not Catch the 1981 Canadian original of which the 3D version is a remake. Visit the mining museum where much of the movie was filmed in Tarentum, Pennsylvania or upload pictures of your friends and then “axe them” at the film’s official site.
