Sometimes auctions really hit the headlines, whether by selling something incredibly rare (like the King Kong model) or items that are highly sought after (such as Audrey Hepburn’s wardrobe, for both see Related Content, right), but here at Boxwish we like to uncover some gems that might be somewhat under the radar. And one such auction has indeed popped up, namely Apple Tree Auction Center’s “Movie Memorabilia, Pocket Watches, Tribal & Collectibles Auction” to be held this Friday (22nd January) in Newark, Ohio. And while we’re sure the pocket watches and tribal stuff is all very exciting to those folks into collecting it, we’re more concerned with the movie goodies of which there are definitely some very well priced treats going under the hammer.

There’s quite a variety of film-related items on offer, from wardrobe to props, from signed movie posters to film cells and all spanning the history of cinema. So, if you’re a fan of the goddesses of the golden age, there’s Katharine Hepburn’s shoes as worn in 1933’s Little Women, Ingrid Bergman’s black blouse from 1944’s Gaslight and Bette Davis’s shoes from 1955 royal romp, The Virgin Queen along with items formerly belonging to Vivien Leigh, Lana Turner, Olivia de Havilland and Joan Crawford.

For lovers of more modern movies, there’s Tom Cruise’s dog tags from Oliver Stone biopic, Born on the Fourth of July (pictured), Jodie Foster’s parasol from western caper, Maverick, Meryl Streep’s hat from The River Wild, Angelina Jolie’s swimsuit (among other items as modelled on the actress) from Playing God, Sigourney Weaver’s trainers from James Cameron’s Aliens and for those looking for a little gore, the (fake) blood-splattered trousers Kathy Bates wore in horror Misery.

And away from set-used wardrobe and props, there are film posters and T-shirts signed by the likes of George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon and Uma Thurman.

The prices all start pretty low, with a minimum bid of $25 attached to many of these items, making them seem like a fantastic opportunity for movie memorabilia collectors.

But don’t worry if you can’t make it to the event in person, as online auction site, Artfact.com are taking cyber bids allowing you to stake your claim remotely.

Sound good? We thought so. Head over to the Artfact website here to check out the treats up for auction (the movie-related ones start from Lot 2578) or the Apple Tree Auction Center site here for all the latest news and developments on the auction.
