Barbra Streisand's screen-worn items fetch thousands at auction
Posted by Team Boxwish 5 months ago
Barbra Streisand’s been enjoying a bit of attention on Boxwish of late. Just a few weeks ago, Babs (can we call you Babs?) caught our attention with her revelation that she recycled a movie set as her basement (see Related Content, right) and now it’s her onscreen fashions that have appeared on our radar. As rather than let them rot at the back of her wardrobe or perhaps throw one on to do the hoovering (as we’re sure she does when no-one’s looking), she’s sold a number of them, along with hundreds of other personal items, at an auction raising thousands for charity. Nice work Babs.
Among the items going under the hammer (not literally, we’re pretty sure that would put off punters) were a number of outfits from her 2004 comedy hit, Meet the Fockers, the most expensive of which fetching $3,500; an apron (yes, apron!) from A Star Is Born went for $1,750 and a dress from The Mirror Has Two Faces earned $1,625. However the star performers were a dress from Funny Lady ($3,500), a robe from The Way We Were ($5,937.50) and On A Clear Day You Can See Forever offered up a nightgown ($3,750) and most bizarrely, a lampshade wig ($3,500).
There were over 400 items in total and Babs’s former film favourites were joined by antique furniture, books, painting and collectibles, with all proceeds going to a selection of the popular entertainer’s best-loved charities, including City Year, the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation and the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Heart Health Center.
