Auto of the week: 1969 Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet from The Hangover
Posted by Team Boxwish 10 months ago
This weekend sees us in the UK catch-up with our American cousins by enjoying the raucous humour of new lads comedy, The Hangover in which three groomsmen find themselves in trouble when they lose the groom-to-be on a stag-do in Las Vegas. Heading to Sin City, the four of them including frustrated family man Phil (Yes Man’s Bradley Cooper), anxiety-ridden dentist Stu (Ed Helms, the US version of The Office), beardy-weirdy Alan (What Happens in Vegas’ Zach Galifianakis) and the soon to be married Doug (the National Treasure movies’ Justin Bertha) pile into a luxury classic car for the trip – a 1969 Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet.
he car is lent to Doug by his future father-in-law Sid (Arrested Development legend Jeffrey Tambor) who reasons that the guy deserves a classy send-off into marriage. But maybe he should have thought again, as the foursome soon cut loose and it’s not just them suffering as the vintage soft-top convertible also endures its fair share of bruising moments.
To this end five identical models were used by the production team led by Bill Brzeski, who explains: “We couldn’t take just one car and put it through the process because we were shooting out of sequence. We even had to cut one in half and put it on a trailer. It was one of the movie’s running jokes: every time you let your kid borrow the car, something is going to happen.”
Get a taste of what the car’s in for with the trailer below.
