Sabrina, Funny Face, My Fair Lady, Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the list of fashionable films by Audrey Hepburn goes on and on helping her cement a reputation as one of the silver screen’s most stylish stars ever. And doubtless there’ll be countless imitation Holly Golightys doing the rounds come Halloween, waving their cigarette holders in the air and shimmying in their little black dresses, but for those of you looking to add more authenticity to your Hepburn look, we’ve got good news as a costume worn by the Oscar-winning legend and other items are to go under the hammer at an auction in December.

The auction will feature over 30 outfits that were worn by Audrey, some with ties to her film career including a black Chantilly lace cocktail dress (estimated at £8,000 to £12,000) as seen in 1966 romantic comedy How To Steal a Million, co-starring Peter O’Toole (pictured). There’s also a black silk dress (up to £15,000) worn in publicity shots for 1962’s Paris When It Sizzles, the much-hyped screen reunion between Sabrina co-stars Hepburn and former love, William Holden.

There are a number of other exciting fashion pieces, many of which designed by her longtime friend and favourite designer, Hubert de Givenchy such as a blue cloqué silk cocktail dress which is estimated to earn between £10,000 and £15,000. Though her fashion fun wasn’t limited to the French designer, with designs from Elizabeth Arden and Valentino and a selection of belts and hats also making the cut. And for those looking for non-wardrobe goodies, there is a collection of letters written by the star with revealing insights into the filming of Roman Holiday, for which she won an Oscar among other subjects.

The catalogue of Hepburn treasures will go under the hammer at the Royal Opera Arcade on Pall Mall, London over three days in December, and Kerry Taylor Auctions, the auction house overseeing the event, is thrilled at the prospect. “We are very excited to have been chosen to handle this historic auction,” enthuses Kerry Taylor. "Hardly any Audrey Hepburn clothing has come onto the market in the past and the few pieces that have went on to sell for six figures.

“Audrey Hepburn is one of the most iconic fashion figures of the 20th century and to have her collection here, to be able to handle it, catalogue and photograph it is a real privilege. Givenchy’s elegant simplicity combined with Audrey’s sense of style and beauty were an unforgettable combination.” Couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
