Ashley Greene talks Alice's fashion in The Twilight Saga: New Moon

The debate rages on – were the Cullen clan of vampires dressed as they should have been in last year’s über-hit Twilight? Some critics of the big screen adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer bestseller, including star Nikki Reed (aka Rosalie Hale) argue that the fashions weren’t right, while others loved each and every outfit. Was Rosalie suitably stunning enough? Did Alice’s (Ashley Greene) passion for haute couture shine through in her boho outfits and was Emmett (Kellan Lutz) more dull jock than immaculate immortal? And so with the sequel, The Twilight Saga: New Moon due out in November (exactly five months from this Saturday), talk continues to focus on the fashions something Ashley Greene has been opening up about…
Attending the opening of edgy fashion chain Rock & Republic’s new store in Los Angeles, Ashley revealed that changes are afoot to Alice’s wardrobe. “We had a lot more [money and time] to work with,” she said by way of explaining the shift in onscreen style, one that will be evidenced by Alice donning a grey ombré jacket by Michael Kors. She continued to reveal that despite her real-life love of Rock & Republic’s clothes, she won’t get to wear them in the movie and compared Alice’s new look to Audrey Hepburn with some “pretty bad ass” attitude thrown in.
Admittedly, these details are sketchy, but what would we make of a more moneyed vibe to Alice’s clothes? Let’s not forget that there were some swanky designer flourishes shown in Twilight, such as her Diane von Furstenberg Oleada dress, though with other items straight off the rack from the likes of Anthropologie, could this herald the true arrival of Meyer’s committed fashionista on film? And if so, why has it taken so long to get Alice swinging home runs in the style stakes when Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward’s (Robert Pattinson) clothes from Twilight were so popular and sought after?
