Christopher Walken never buys own clothes, takes them from movie sets

We’re all for recycling and reusing here at Boxwish (and as such never let a plastic bottle go in the rubbish bin!), and are always thrilled to hear of the environmental concerns of Hollywood stars. However, you wouldn’t think that movie actors get paid a fortune for what they do as so many of them have recently come clean about swiping their costumes from film sets. Cameron Diaz goes incognito in the frumpy threads from Being John Malkovich and even a rising star like Zombieland’s Jesse Eisenberg has gotten in on the act (and been shamed for it!) and now the latest minted A-lister to join the list is Christopher Walken who claims he never buys clothes.
Talking to German newspaper, Zeit, he of the amazing standy-uppy hair and distinctive, much imitated voice reveals: “I’ll tell you something… I never buy clothes. Whenever I’m making a movie I take the clothes from there back home. My complete wardrobe is from movie sets. Usually it’s real nice stuff.”
Certainly, the last few years have thrown up some roles for which the Oscar-winner got to wear smart and sophisticated ensembles (The Wedding Crashers, The Stepford Wives), but he’s generally known for playing quirkier, more off-beat parts (the Headless Horseman in Sleepy Hollow, Morty the mad inventor in Click) and we can’t imagine these provide outfits fit for everyday wear.
Not that getting hold of the wardrobe is always easy. When starring as the villainous Max Shreck in Batman Returns, he got to go gothic in Gotham in stripey suits and bow ties (finished with his Beethoven-esque wig), but when it came to collecting his togs, he’d been beaten to the punch by other onset sneaks.
“For example, Batman, when I was shooting it I got very interesting clothes and accessories,” he remembers. “On my last day of shooting I had already thought a long time about what I would like to take with me. I had some beautiful cuff links. When I had finished my last scene and went back to my dressing room everything was already gone. Everything!”
Bad luck Chris, maybe you should get it written into your contract or just get a bit quicker at making your move!
