Biopic Amelia taps into cool aviator fashion trend

Belstaff have contributed two pieces to the movie; a leather trench (brown, double-breasted and belted) and a leather bomber (also brown, with a front zip, two pockets and ribbed hems, pictured), both of which are sported by Swank in the central role and are being enthusiastically talked up by the brand. According to Franco DiCarlo, the vice president of Belstaff USA, the bomber fuses function and style boasting a cropped length and slim sleeve, adding: “A lot of the aviator jackets are timeless in style and they perform under a great variety of weather. They say fashion is cyclical, but this is timeless,” he says.

The movie’s director, Mira Nair is thrilled to note the synchronicity between the onscreen styles and what’s currently hitting the catwalks, with items like Amelia’s jumpsuit alarmingly on-trend. “I’m pretty amazed to see what’s happening in fashion magazines,” she reveals. “In the last six weeks, I’ve seen so many with the aviator look.”

Because of this, Belstaff is reporting that the leather bomber as seen in Amelia is selling well and looks likely to replicate the success of their previous aviation flick tie-in with 2004’s Oscar-winner, The Aviator.
